Working in the front office, you will be the first person the guests meet in the hotel so you will play a key role to making their visit great by performing good customer service. Also, your job will include various administrative and clerical tasks. Your tasks will vary every day from basic office tasks (eg. organizing documents and answering the phone) to helping customers with whatever they need.
-Duties
In the front office your duties will vary every day and they may include: ensuring accurate and efficient running of
reception including check in/out procedures, responding
to guest queries in a timely and efficient manner,
insuring that both the Front Office Manager and
Reception Supervisors are kept fully aware of any
relevant feedback from Guests and/or other
departments, demonstrating a high level of customer
service at all times, understanding thoroughly all hotel room
categories, room rates, packages, promotions and
other general product knowledge necessary to perform
daily duties, maximizing room occupancy and use upselling
techniques to promote hotel services and
facilities, understanding correct procedures regarding the
acceptance of foreign currencies, credit cards and cash
in accordance with the hotel credit policy, ensuring all Guest
deliveries and messages are received effectively and
efficiently, acting in accordance with fire, health and safety
regulations and follow the correct procedures when
required, acting in accordance with policies and
procedures when working with front of house equipment
and property management systems, following and adhering to
company brand standards, assisting other departments
wherever necessary and maintaining good working
relationships with team members, working with your
manager to identify a specific project to complete.
-Area Description
Zakynthos (Zante) is the largest of the Ionian Islands, and it's as fruitful as it is beautiful, boasting a bounty of crops like olives and grapes. Its landscape diversity has resulted in different types of beaches: there are sandy beaches in secluded coves where the tranquil waters are deep blue on the island’s southeastern part; yet, in the western part of the island you can find rugged cliffs and an interesting underwater world.
-Requirements
Everybody is eligible in working in hotels, but the program is highly beneficial for those studying a degree related to tourism and hospitality. Previous work experience in the same field is considered an advantage.
-Curriculum Activities
Zakynthos offers many interesting places worth visiting, for example: The Solomos square, Strata Marina, Post- Byzantine Museum of Zante, Stranis hill, Aghios Nikolaos and Aghios Dionysios. Also, Music is a huge part of the local culture—you can catch a concert or festival almost any night of the week, and you'll be captivated by the sights and sounds of Zakynthos performers. In Zakynthos you can find many interesting cruises for example Turtle spotting cruise, Sightseeing cruise and Smugglers Cove cruise. There is also a Zante Water Village, one of the biggest Water Parks in Greece, situated on the southeast part of Zakynthos.
-Work Day
You will be working 8 hours per day with a break for your meal. There are different shifts at the hotel so you may be working in the morning, evening or night shift. You might have a straight shift (work 8 hours in a row) or a split-shift (work 4 hours first and after a break work another 4 hours).
